Still catching up on the inbox after so much time away. I have another gem to share today. Carolyn Marie is a pop powerhouse serving up excellent music and videos. She is also a very talented dancer and choreographer. Additionally, she is in touch with e-media via her zine.

First, I shall let this musician introduce himself. From his bio on BandCamp:
“Pseudonym is a band consisting of me, Paul Desjarlais, and other real or imaginary people. Back in Boston a long time ago I used to play bass for The Uncalled Four, and then for Haberland. After that I released a cassette album called Pabz, and later a CD called Pig Tail World. Now I live in San Francisco and I record songs when I get a chance and sometimes post albums online.”
With so many out there with a synthesizer, drum machine, minimal skills, and a computer self-proclaimed a DIY musician, it is a tag line here at Indie Nation… “We listen to bad music so you don’t have to”. Pseudonym is a welcome exception.
Blah Blah Blah
Juliana Wilson is a 13-year-old talent who hails from New York. While she may still be an adolescent, she has several lifetimes of talent. Her track Blah Blah Blah, written by Matty Amendola and Helen Austin, has a kaleidoscope of eclectic instrumentation and wonderful changes making it a treat for the listener. The video is also an ultra-creative production that projects the lyrics and persona of the artist wonderfully.
That said, the best thing about the song is the young lady’s singing. She has a terrific voice, varies the delivery of lyrics perfectly with the music, and totally nails the performance visually. In my opinion, we should be blessed with much more music from this Juliana. She definitely has what it takes to be up and coming!
Awesome House Track, GuMix Radio – 389 – 2015 on 33-45
I listen to many podcasts. One of them I enjoy much is GuMix. I will get to more about this artist in a bit… a good long bit. The track I am sharing below is a long, awesome house track. As usual, I have far more material in my inbox than time to review it all. However, I shall get to it all, in order, as rapidly as possible. I shall keep my pledge to “listen to the bad music so you don’t have to”. If you are a musician awaiting a response either I didn’t like your material or I just haven’t gotten to you yet. Be patient, sooner or later you will know.
I shall also continue to write positive-only reviews for the material that I happen on and like. Today, I would like to thank Undefined 901 or “U901” for giving me something to rave about. I don’t know much about the band other than they are from Memphis Tennesee.
Micheal Cullen Releases True Believer
Michael Cullen is an Australian singer song writer. He plays old semi-acoustic guitars, records on tape, uses tube microphones and other analog equipment. Michael has been performing in bands for the past two decades and his experience really shows on this 9 song release. He has a distinct baritone voice and a musical style that is truly his own. While his bio indicates that he has much experience in the punk genre, he is much more diverse than a single genre.
If I had to describe the work of this band in just two words, I would use “refreshingly different”. If I had to assign them to a genre, which I hate doing, I might go with avant-garde. Galaxxies describes themselves as “experimental, alternative/indie pop music”. Regardless of how one would describe them in terms of genre, their music is great. While it could certainly fit into the genres mentioned, I think the most important thing to say about their style and music is that it has a unique and wonderful sound.
Galaxxies is a Canadian duo that has no shortage of creativity. They also take full control of every aspect of their work’s realization. Garrett Gengler is involved in every step of the project including web design, video and cover art. Marcile Wilmot is the other half of the project and she takes writing credits and brings her Jamaican upbringing to the table as well. It shows in their music, their album art and even their well done covers.
The Galaxxies EP is a great five song collection. Each of the tracks are unique and different. All of the track are well produced and share only the commonality of being great music. Frankly, it was difficult to decide on what tracks to include in this podcast. I went with Galaxies, Love Ain’t True, and Slow Time.

I don’t know much about this band. I never heard of them before they contacted us. However, I am damn glad they contacted us.
Monogroove’s New Release, Echos in the Glass
This is a request to review an album that I was really glad to receive. It is was, unlike many, great to listen to. The tough part will be deciding on a favorite track.
First, a little basic information on Monogroove, according to their Reverb Nation Bio is:
Monogroove is the Los Angeles based female fronted dual vocal Power/Pop Band Performing in and around the LA circuit, Benefits, Charity/fundraisers and private gatherings
The Members are:
- Rin Lennon – Vocals and Guitars
- Andrea Ireland – Vocals
- Brad Myers – Bass
- Kenny Cratty – Drums
Yes, the gender make up is the same as the Mamas and the Papas. Musically they do have somewhat of that sound. However, being a fan of the famous foursome, I think that this release offers a much more eclectic mix of sound.
Echoes in the Glass is a very solid album of great music. From the catchy sax rift that kicks the album off with the first track, When You Went Away, with a sound much like Mo-town, to the last track, the band does a good job of providing the listener with 17 tracks that you will want to listen to. They even tossed in an awesome cover of Tomorrow Never Knows, a tune that, in my opinion, is a tough one for any band to cover.
The band is excellent vocally with some beautiful harmonization on almost every track. It is definitely the vocals that I feel is the band’s strong suit. However, I want to make it clear that the music is also great. Another thing the band does well is to keep a certain style of their own while still giving the listener a good dose of eclectic music. There are funky songs, mellow songs, sad ballads and just down right happy tunes on this collection.
