Anger Management by Seven Mouldy Figs
The album kicks off with the raucous thick sounding song titled From me to you. The sound is thick, heavy and distorted accompanied by a slightly whinny well delivered lead vocals, delivering the lyrics in phrased burst working well against the driving rhythm guitar and steady drums. It is a good choice for an opening track because it leaves you anticipating the rest of this four track EP.
In general this alt-rock band from Zagreb, Croatia has a harder rock sound but no two tracks sound the same. They do a great job of using slightly different sounds and styles while keeping a distinct and unique sound of their own. The band is consistent in delivering music that is high in energy.
For a four track EP, there is a nice degree of variance; From me to you is driving and steady, Cherry pie is similar but changes the feel with the guitar part, The Dark Sun is slightly haunting but still keeps the high energy with nice sections which are softer and even more eerie, and the last track, That little pain is begins with a welcome departure in style featuring a driving bluesy bass melody, bursts of guitar and whisper-like vocals and, as the song progresses it moves back and forth from a blues-like swagger to explosive walls of psychedelic rock.
This four song EP consists of four excellent songs and serves well to show case the talents of this excellent band. You will have a hard time picking out a favorite. Hopefully they put out a full length album in the near future.
