Love in the Dark

I don’t know much about these artists. Love in the Dark, a 6 piece band from Chicago, according to their email, records their own material in the drummer’s basement. Looking at some of the photos on their Facebook Page, I would best describe the seating sardine style. The band’s members occupying every possible square inch of space with the keyboardist, at times on the floor. However, they blast a lot of sound out of the small space.  A lot of very awesome sound.

I have a studio like that myself… 8 feet by 12 feet. I admire their passion. You can tell it is passion by how they describe it at their bandcamp page (for the ep Love in the Dark.)

While the lip sweat inducing summer sun began to cool, we hibernated into Orange Light Studios. OLS started as a practice pad full of oddly colored lighting, then soon blossomed into so much more. Walls padded, amps mic’d, and vocals in a bathroom, we were ready to create, what seemed like, an album in the making of our own heads for years, but finally found the right people to complete the first major step: recording melodic frames of time. Love in the Dark is the product of six determined, young musicians who were able to capture a beautiful span of three months, and are ever so thankful of the opportunity. So thank you for your constant support, we thrive off of it.

Kudos to the home recording enthusiasts and long live the new media order! Music done well and done DIY style.

The band members are:

  • Rob -Lead Guitar
  • Mitch -Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
  • Otto -Drums
  • Chris -Bass
  • Keegan -Trombone
  • Cathy – Sax
  • Massimo – Keys

They are rockin’, funky, psychedelic, swingy, and trippy all at the same time. Impossible to not notice. They create a thick-energetic sound that will pick you up and take you for an exciting ride. They craftily use all the different instruments and styles to create a nice palette of songs. I enjoyed everything they had up at BandCamp.

Sorry, I didn’t really enlighten you more about Love in the Dark. I can, however, tell you that if you check their music out, you will enjoy this fusion-of-styles band.  I can also tell you they seem very kewl people for two reasons:

  • That is a flying pig on top of the bandcamp page, as in that is just kewl!
  • Look at the ep page and check out the vinyl style CDs, double kewl!

Jesting aside, this band does some great music and I hope they spend some more time in that basement.
