National Science Fiction Day – Jeff Ronay – Open the Pod Door HAL
Happy 2016 listeners and welcome to the first “Pick of the Day” for 2016. Today is National Science Fiction Day. The second of January has been because it also the birthdate of Isaac Asimov. I will let you know more about today’s artist, Jeff Ronay, after the break and some trivia fact about today.
Today in music history is also marked by a few events:
- In 1968 Newark, New Jersey, police seized a shipment of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Two Virgins. The album cover featured the artists nude on the cover. Future releases were in a plain brown wrappers.
- In 1956, Elvis went to Memphis for a tour with Johnny Cash and other musicians. Also, in 1972, he gave Mohamed Ali a robe he later wore before a bout he lost to Ken Norton.
- In 1954, Eddie Calvert’s Oh’ Mein Papa” hit number one. It was the first number one hit recorded at Abbey Road Studio.
- In 1941 The Andrews Sisters released Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
Now for today’s pick of the day is Jeff Ronay’s Open the Pod Door HAL. Jeff Ronay has been in the Cleveland music scene for many years. Although I have never met him personally, I consider him a friend. He was one of the first artists to grant me permission to play his music under a Creative Commons license when I began doing Internet radio. In short, he gets the new media order and helped me out. Furthermore, this song fits today’s unofficial holiday of National Science Fiction Day.
He does both comedy and serious music. This a tune he first released when he was in a band named 77 South. It is one of the freeways in our area. Our pick of the day is in the spirit of 2001: A Space Odyssey we went with Mr. Ronay’s Open the Pod Door HAL
As a closing note, I would like to thank Mr. Ronay for supporting Indie Nation by sharing his music over the years and encourage our listeners to support him by purchasing his merchandise, spreading the word about his music and checking him out at the links below.
A of a bonus for the readers who actually read this far.
