VanDeRocker

Kissing Booth

Personally, I am a bit of a snow lover but I am already hearing “Okay, Christmas is over bring on summer”. The song I am sharing should have you thinking summer because it has a certain surf music feel to it.

Before we get to the video, though, a little more information on Adrienne VanDerRocker. From her bio page:

“VanDeRocker is the L.A. based indie rock/electro-pop project of Adrienne VanDeRocker, a composer and songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist. Adrienne grew up in Austin, belonging to a Dutch-American family of classical musicians. Piano was her primary instrument in her childhood, but as she became more interested in rock music (and less interested in school), she developed an interest in guitar and writing songs. By 12 years of age, she began performing in local bars with her sister’s band, which marked the beginning of a deep fascination with the world of music and performance art.”

Shelita Burke – Belong

I got a direct message from @ShelitaBurke asking me to give a song of hers a listen. The song, Belong is a very pleasing track and has already received one million plays on Spotify.

I shall share Belong after the break, it is a lovely mix of vocals and music. The lyrics are very poetic and her vocal approach nicely uses repetition to create a song that pleases the ears. It left me wanting more Shelita Burke.  I am confident you shall feel the same way.

Bitter’s Kiss

Bitter’s Kiss – A Young and Rising Talent

Bitter’s Kiss is an indie pop artist from Weehawken, New Jersey. It is the work of Chloe Baker. She has a pleasing voice, writes great lyrics, uses her voice to deliver them beautifully, backs it with music with a nice touch of variety and is something worth listening to.

I will elaborate further on why I like this young talent soon but, for now, let us hear what she has to say about her work, from the artist’s About Page:

bitter’s kiss, current project of New Jersey-based singer/songwriter Chloe Baker, invites the listener into a world of joy, pain, sorrow and redemption that reflects the humanity in all of us. With a voice that is melodic, delicate and at times haunting, Chloe explores a range of styles as she describes her own observations and experience through music and words.”

The Band Avon Dale – Rocky, Bluesy and Jamin’ in Memphis

Warning: Some may consider this material may not safe for work and has some profanities. If that bothers you, please exercise your freedom of choice by going to another post as we exercise our freedom of speech.

The Band Avon Dale is a Memphis-based band. I will give you my take on them in a short minute. However, I think they do a great job of describing themselves, from their About Page:

“Avon Dale is a Memphis-based, rootsy rock band with a touch of soul. A four piece band featuring a dynamic rhythm section, the elemental sounds of an acoustic guitar, blues inspired electric guitar riffs, and soulful vocals, that range from tender and plaintive, to gritty and beseeching. A powerful live act, Avon Dale meshes concise rock ballads with lengthy improvisational jams. With a raw energetic presence, the band is quickly gaining followers in rock and jam band circles alike and becoming a Memphis must see act.”

w00t! Today is Celtic Thursday.  An awesome idea from the equally awesome Marc Gunn.  While we at Indie Nation spin all genre, Brian, our tech and news director, though Marc’s idea kewl enough to reprogram our bot to spin all Celtic music from 10 AM to 10 PM DST every Thursday.

Marc Gunn – The Maid Went to the Mill

To Kick Off Celtic Thursday – The Maid and the Mill

Marc Gunn is well liked by us here at indienation.fm for many good reasons.  He does great music, he shares it, he supports Celtic music and, most relevant to this post, he came up with the idea of #CelticThursdays.  The idea is simple.  Use the hash tag #CelticThurday to promote Celtic music every Thursday.  Brian, our news and tech director, liked the idea so much that he found over 15 hours of Celtic music and reprogramed the bot to play Celtic music every Thursday from 10 AM to 10 PM DST.  So to kick off the event for today, check out Marc Gunn’s video The Maid and the Mill.

To find out more about Celtic music and how to support it check out his celticmusic.org site.

Sarah Donner – The Rebuttal of Schrödinger’s Cat by Sarah Donner

Kittens, Music and General Geekery

I honestly can’t decide whether this lady is easier on the eyes, ears, soul or brains.  Quoting her Twitter account, “I have kittens and I’m not afraid to use them”.  Honestly, what geek could not like some one who love cats and sings about physics.  Sarah Donner is one of the many talents that will be performing at the 2014 Gen Con.  Check out her video below and follow her at the links after the video.

Barry McCabe is one talented musician.  He blends blues, rock and a dash of Celtic to create tunes that are both eclectic and uniquely his style.  Having exchanged emails with him over the years I feel he is a musician who genuinely enjoys connecting with his fans.  This is very evident if you check out the energy he pumps out during live performances.
