Sarah Donner – Live at Gen Con 2014

If the musicians at Gen Con have anything in common, it could only be that they are all unique.  Sarah Donner is one fine example of such, having her own special feline, geek, funny personal style, twist and brand.  Not only does she do songs about cats,  but specifically about Schrödinger’s and, check out her latest video at the end of the interview notes, which is Tesla themed.  Seriously how could geeks like us not love this stuff?

Not only did we manage to catch up with Sarah Donner for an interview but she was also nice enough to let us record her live.   Keep it tuned here for when we release all the Gen Con stuff.  Also, if you ever get word that she is playing near you, be sure and go see her as you will not be disappointed. I was lucky enough to catch up with Sarah at a coffee shop across the street from the con. Listen it to as we talk and hit on the following and more?

Join us as she tells us about:

  • When she started playing
  • “Angsty female songs”
  • How she uses comedy
  • of course, cats, science, geek and other inspirations and influences
  • The Anatomy Coloring Book
  • How many albums so far
  • Being on the road
  • Her thoughts on the new media order
  • What would she call her genre
  • Who does she think she sounds like
  • Our thoughts on genre
  • Her advice to those who desire to do what she does

Marc Gunn at Gen Con 2014

Marc Gunn at Gen Con 2014

Marc Gunn has been on my playlist even before the station existed. He was one of the first artist I contacted to get permission to play when I was the only DJ spinning indie music on a mainstream Internet station. (RIP Geeksradio.fm)  I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to finally catch up with this wonderful kilted man.

Regrettably, and I still don’t get why, I don’t come through well on the recording. (Maybe it was where I was sitting, the crowd noise drowns me out.)  Nonetheless, the important part, Mr. Marc Gunn, is very audible. Listen in as we talk about:

  • Drinking songs
  • How long he has been doing Gen Con
  • Why he love Gen Con
  • How he got into his craft
  • His influences
  • Some of the gigs for him at Gen Con
  • His thoughts on the New Media Order
  • His advice for one who wants to do what he does

You can find Marc Gunn on the web at:

Marc is a HUGE supporter of the Celtic music scene, check out this list of donations by him at his website.

Marc also loves to travel and acts as a tour guide. Check out Celtic Invasion.

To close, I would like to personally thank Mr. Gunn for his time. Not only is he one of my favorite podsafe artists, I have always had admiration for how he supports his art form. I must also mention that he and I had more conversation after the interview and he continued with additional recommendations, all of which I have since explored and feel are of great worth. Hopefully, I can catch up with him again in the near future.

A Cat Themed Concert

Meow – Marc Gunn to do a Cat Themed Concert

I am snot sure when this hit my feed reader but I noticed it this morning.  Marc Gunn, who you will hear much about today for it is Celtic Thursday, describes his music as “rhythm and folk” and themed around Sci Fi, hobbits, cats and Star Wars.  He also does lots of drinking songs.  Marc has an announcement

I have seen Marc  perform live. I  can tell you that it should be a great show.  He is just a great entertainer. Be sure to get your tickets.

Before we even begin, I wish to caution the listener that some of this material may be NSFW (Not Safe For Work).  Listener discretion is advised.

Marc’s music is characterized not only by its Celtic style but wit, humor and is often themed by sci-fi, Tolkien or cats.  He is creative and entertaining.  He is also another talent performing at Gen Con this year.  Lumpy can’t wait to meet Marc at his booth this year.
