Dungeons & Dragons Launches The Sundering;

Invites Fans of Fantasy Entertainment to Make Their Stories Legend

August 6, 2013 – RENTON, WA –The most popular setting in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, The Forgotten Realms, is about to be completely reshaped by an epic event announced today by Wizards of the Coast. The Sundering is an extensive story spanning multiple expressions of the contemporary fantasy entertainment franchise that offers fans the opportunity to impact the fate of the world along the way.

Key milestones in the year-long Sundering storyline will take place in iconic locations like Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter and Icewind Dale, to name a few.  The changes to the Forgotten Realms can be experienced through a series of novels, in-store play experiences, digital offerings, comics, accessories and tabletop RPG adventures. Through these expressions, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) fans will be able to engage and impact the fate of the Forgotten Realms forever.

The Sundering kicks off today with the release of The Companions, The Sundering, Book I by New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore.  His novel depicts the events of the Sundering as seen through the eyes of the world’s most well-known drow ranger, Drizzt Do’ Urden.  Salvatore’s novel is part of collaboration with other New York Times bestselling authors who will each show the changes to the Realms from their heroes’ points of view.

“We are elated to begin this extremely exciting chapter in the history of D&D,” said Nathan Stewart, Dungeons & Dragons Brand Director at Wizards of the Coast. “Utilizing great digital entertainment, dramatic story-telling techniques and thrilling and immersive events, The Sundering ushers in a new era for the future of the franchise.  We invite and encourage the legions of D&D adventurers to join us on this heroic adventure to change the canon of the Realms.”

When the Sundering is complete, the results of these stunning events will have reshaped the Forgotten Realms forever, providing the landscape for future D&D stories.

The Sundering includes:

o    Arena of War, the first free-to-play D&D game on iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Android devices, is a thrilling 3D battle roleplaying game set in the Forgotten Realms. Wizards of the Coast today announced two exciting new features coming to Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers! Sealed Play and a new take on the popular Slivers creature type will both make their debut in the Duels of the Planeswalkers franchise with Magic 2014.

The addition of Sealed Play will allow players to open booster packs and build decks to play against the AI and other players. Each sealed pool is comprised of 84 cards, mimicking paper TCG booster packs. The PvE experience includes a six-deck ladder where players take on mono-colored Sealed decks each corresponding with a particular Planeswalker, and finally facing a ‘boss’ Sealed deck.

Another feature debuting in Magic 2014 is a new take on the popular Slivers creature type. A fan-favorite, new playable Slivers in Magic 2014 decks will include the following:

−     Sliver Construct

−     Predatory Sliver

−     Groundshaker Sliver

−     Megantic Sliver

−     Blur Sliver

−     Striking Sliver

−     Thorncaster Sliver

−     Battle Sliver

−     Sentinel Sliver

−     Bonescythe Sliver

In addition, Hive Stirrings, a sorcery that creates Sliver tokens, will also be included in Magic 2014.

You can find some new screenshots from the game here.

The Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers video game will be available for PC, Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, iPad, and Android tablet for the first time when it launches this summer. The Magic 2014 product line-up also includes the Magic 2014 – Core Set for the paper trading card game (TCG) and Magic Online.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else.

One of the cooler things we had a chance to do at Gen Con 2012 was visit with Wizards of the Coast and talk with them about the Rise of the Underdark.    Shelly shares with us the information we need on the two new board games set in the Underdark, the approved play program, and some of the books in the setting.    While hanging out at their booth we also had a chance to video a tour of Dungeons and Dragons online.

Do you spend days with graph, paper dice, Coca Cola and cold pizza?  Want to smell like a Dungeon and Dragon DM?  Well not only is May 11, D&D Encounter Day but, just in case five continuous days of RPGing does not have you smelling orcish enough, you can now add even more realism with scent.   Yes, dragon heads, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has released a line of RPG scents.

The Rouge scent, for example is described as:

Soft, well-worn black leather, hemp, and rosin.

The line includes scents for classes, races and even alignments.

I am scared to death as to what a Dark Elf smells like,  seems to be it would smell like Obama.
