Warning – The material reviewed below has explicit language and subject material most would consider not safe for work. If this type of material offends you please respect the artist’s right to freedom of expression and exercise your right to freedom of choice and read another review at Indie Nation.
As usual, I have far more material in my inbox than time to review it all. However, I shall get to it all, in order, as rapidly as possible. I shall keep my pledge to “listen to the bad music so you don’t have to”. If you are a musician awaiting a response either I didn’t like your material or I just haven’t gotten to you yet. Be patient, sooner or later you will know.
I shall also continue to write positive-only reviews for the material that I happen on and like. Today, I would like to thank Undefined 901 or “U901” for giving me something to rave about. I don’t know much about the band other than they are from Memphis Tennesee.
An Interview with The Great Luke Ski
The Great Luke Ski is a multi-talented man. He is energetic, entertaining, genuine and hilarious. He does stand up, music, cartoons, collects everything, is a member of The FuMP and gave us his time for an interview.
Luke Ski is Dr. Demento’s most requested artist of the 21st century. Replacing the earlier top-requested, Weird Al. He has also won Logan Awards for Snoopy the Dogg and When You Wish Upon a Death Star. He does a podcast, Bad Rapport with fellow FuMP member, Carrie Dahlby. He is a regular convention performer and this year would be his 20th performing the Gen Con in Indianapolis.
You can read more about Luke at his About Page. You can also listen in as Luke and Lumpy discuss:
- His background
- You Might be a Trekie
- How he does his music and collaborates
- How he has shifted on parodies
- His inspirations, both comedy and hip hop
- His thoughts on the new media order
- How he feels about CDs

You can find out more about The Great Luke Ski at:
The Great Luke is a regular to many cons, according to his website:
San Diego Comic-Con, Star Wars Celebration, Dragon*Con, WorldCon, NASFIC, Creation’s 40th Anniversary Star Trek Convention, GenCon Indy, Origins, Nerdapalooza and many more. He also is the chair of the comedy music track at MarsCon in the Twin Cities (marscondementia.com).
If at all possible, I suggest you catch up with Luke Ski when he is on the road. He also often works with others such as members of the FuMP. This year at Gen Con he did a Friday Night Live show which included many other comedy musicians and had Whitney Avalon perform a few at another show he did at Gen Con this year. Of note, Whitney Avalon and Jonathan Hurley won a Logan award, Outstanding Comedy Music Video, for That Doesn’t Make Sense.

MC Lars – Nerdcore Hip Hop Artist and Master of Both Words and Being a DIY Artist
Warning: This podcast contains material that may be offensive to some and may be considered NSFW (not safe for work). If you feel you may be offended, please exercise your freedom of choice and do not listen as I exercise my freedom of speech.
Personally, I am not really a huge fan of hip hop. I appreciate it, listen to it, and feel it is the poetry of today but would more likely listen to rock, jazz or blues. Maybe my years are showing?
However, there are exceptions. MC Lars and Weerd Science are always on my Sansa Clip. I am serious when I say this… that status only applies to about a half dozen artists. They are among my favorites. While not my normal cup of tunage, I love this stuff!
MC Lars is an exception with good reason. He is an exceptional master of words, a true DIY artist and, based on some personal conversation with him at Vans Warped Tour, a totally awesome human being. It is with great pleasure that I read his Facebook wall and was informed that he will be performing at SXSW this year. Kudos and congrats to MC Lars!
