Shelita Burke – Belong

I got a direct message from @ShelitaBurke asking me to give a song of hers a listen. The song, Belong is a very pleasing track and has already received one million plays on Spotify.

I shall share Belong after the break, it is a lovely mix of vocals and music. The lyrics are very poetic and her vocal approach nicely uses repetition to create a song that pleases the ears. It left me wanting more Shelita Burke.  I am confident you shall feel the same way.

2014.08.04-TNN – Alan Freed’s Remains No Longer Welcome at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Asked Alan Freed’s Family to Pick Up His Remains

We at Indie Nation feel that this should be filed under the “just wrong” category.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, has asked the family of Alan Free, The King of the Moondoggers and the DJ who coined the term “Rock and Roll”,  to come and claim his remains previously interred at the museum.  At the time of our broadcast, the local news had announce that his family did indeed do just that.

Lumpy, a long time Clevelander and one who was active in fundraising and lobbying to have the hall in Cleveland and not New York, had a good bit to say on the matter.  We hope that the public speaks up on the matter and this ridiculous decision is somehow reversed.

While, as the Rock Hall stated, the public may not “understand” the exhibit, that is the failure and fault of the museum which should educate the public.  Furthermore, why are they so concerned with display space when they made room for non-inductee Beyoncé’s wardrobe?

Welcome to episode 001 of the Whatever and Whenever PodCast, actually, when we recorded this episode, we had not even thought of a name for it. Meshelly and Lumpy just knew that we wanted to add another show to the line up at Indie Nation. We wanted to do news and music… and we wanted to simply use it to hijack the stream when nothing else was scheduled. We also knew we wanted something that would be fun and safe for work. Our thought was something like a drive time show, mostly music, some fun banter and some recent news.

So on the mics we go, fired up idjc (Internet DJ Console) and off into cyberspace we blasted. And remember, you will never know when a new show may stream live and, in the end, time-shifted or live, it is hopefully great content.
